It’s hard to describe in words but there seems to be a distinct smell that happens right when it begins to rain! Most of us call it simply, the smell of the rain but it’s actually not the rain itself that we are smelling.
During dry periods, certain plants excrete an oil into the soil and clay that is disturbed by the falling rain, wafting it into the air where we can then smell it.
This smell is called Petrichor and literally means the blood of the gods!
